I believe that a photographer should be able to successfully photograph the locale in which they reside. It is nice to go to the "exotic" locations, however a person is closest to his own environment. Creating meaningful images should happen at home as well away.
Lake Lowell is our local reservoir. It is less than five miles from my home. The lake is fed by water out of the Boise River by way of the New York Canal. The reservoir was initially built, back in 1909, for the purpose of providing irrigation water for farmland in Canyon County. It has since grown to be a place of recreation during the summer months as well.
Many locals do not think the lake to be very beautiful, but more of a "mud hole." I took this as a personal challenge, to photograph the lake and its surroundings in a way it had never before been seen. I have intentionally avoided showing the recreational value of the lake, as I wanted to show strictly the beauty of the lake and its surroundings. I may, at some future time, photograph the recreational opportunities at the lake.
